In a straight up duel the Cathay Crossbows would beat Dwarf crossbows (Which is meant to be the key positive of Dwarf missile units over other factions) and they will also do more damage to enemies than Dwarf Crossbows will.ДЄlso harmony boosts reload time reduction and leadership so they will be shooting faster on top of having more damage a volley. They have the same armor, both have shields, and both do have the same missile strength, however Cathay Crossbows have 10 more entities which means 210 more damage a volley. You aren't going to be putting it into melee, so better to just have it be really good at being an archer than it being just quite good archer but also sort of kind of decent melee combatant. It is harder to reach army losses with an archer unit that has high melee stats than it is for an archer unit with the same ranged stats but worse melee stats. In fact in some ways they are a negative to have better melee stats because then the game 'values' the unit more and thus the damage it does is worth less. Melee stats are kind of irrelevant for archer units. An 'acceptable break with reality' I guess. But it is a common trope that the cream of French chivalry at Crecy and Agincourt were slaughtered by a bunch of uncultured peasants, which is what GW have decided to go with here. In reality, most of the English longbowmen were professional soldiers (who would also have had their own personal weapons and equipment) - a peasant farmer really doesn't have the time to dedicate to that level of training. Deformed skeletons of English archers from the Hundred Years War have been found with overdeveloped arm and shoulder bones from literally years of training with longbows from a young age.

Especially the kind of English-style longbows that Brettonia are packing, which made up for their lack of composite materials (which wouldn't have worked as well in such a damp climate anyway) by just being massive and having ridiculous draw weights.
